Goal Setting with Visualization: How to realise your dreams and ambitions
Set Your Goals
Decide on the goals you want to achieve. It sounds simple, but youd be surprised how hard it
is to actually pinpoint what you want. If asked, people will often have woolly ambitions like
being happy or making money but you need to know WHAT that means. What will make YOU happy? Opening a chocolate shop? Travelling the world? Repairing old clocks? You need to be honest with yourself and discover your true ambitions.
Visualise yourself where you want to be
See yourself as a success. If its a promotion youre after, imagine youre finally sitting in that huge office with the window, or sitting behind the wheel of that gleaming sports car. If youve always wanted to sell up and run a guesthouse in Spain, picture yourself doing just that. Really go for it - image what you are doing and saying and what people are saying back to you in your new situation. The more you positively visualise yourself where you want to be, the more energy is directed to manifesting your dreams and making them a reality.
However, a word of caution, DO NOT overdo it - obsessing about it or trying TOO hard actually creates an energy block. Setting 10 minutes aside a day to give relaxed, uninterrupted thought to it is perfect - and if you don't manage for a couple of days that's okay!
Now the tricky part
How did you actually achieve your imagined success? So, youve pictured yourself in the plush office. Now you have to picture yourself on the route that got you there. What were the specific things you needed to do? Did you have to take work home with you to meet targets or did you have to start a weekend job to save money? Let the answers come to you naturally and easily. Think positively about how you will overcome any barriers and incorporate them into your visualisaion ie if you need to get a weekend job, visualise yourself in a weekend job that you would enjoy.
How long did it take you to achieve your goal? Is the future you years off or are you only looking ahead six months? By thinking about how far off your target is, its easier to picture how and when you will get there.
How did you know youd achieved your goal? What signs did you see that indicated youd achieved it? For example, if you want to be living a healthier life, how do you know that in your future life youre healthier? Do you see yourself running in the morning before work? Do you know that youre eating 5 pieces of fruit and veg a day?
Be really specific about your goal. What are the exact details of your future life now that youve achieved what you always wanted? What are you doing in the future that you werent doing in the present time? What relationships do you have in the future that you dont actually have now? Youve really got to picture in minute detail the new, future you.
Thinking about the future can be daunting and deciding how to change your life for the better is often so hard it stops you from actually trying.
By visualising yourself in a time when youre doing what you REALLY want to do, with thought given to the smallest of details, means you are directing your energies towards that dream. In turn, because we and the universe are made of energy and therefore all instrinsically linked, means that the universal energy starts moving towards your dream too.
Once you start this process, look out for "co-incidences" that start occurring in your life that create the necessary stepping stones to get where you need to be.
Try it. Anything will seem achievable.
